West Tower Wedding Photographs / Donna and Wayne

Weddings | 05.06.2014

Well, this wedding reads like a “Who’s who” of the North West wedding industry!  And what a bloody pleasure it was to be involved in from start to finish!  I LOVED shooting Donna and Wayne’s West Tower Wedding Photographs – the day was literally amazing :)

Me, LOVE Bridal Boutique, Terry Fox, Silk Wedding Films, Howard Wing, Flower Design, The Coolers, Sonara Parker MUA, The Word is Love – it really doesn’t get much better!

Donna and Wayne – I know I’ve sat on your wedding for a few months, but I was waiting for the right time to post it – and that time is now!

Here’s the story of their brilliant day at West Tower

Wedding Photography Workshop / Locations, Lighting and Posing

Masterclass | 29.05.2014

It’s here!  The blog post all about my recent Masterclass in Locations, Lighting & Posing.  This work shop does what it says on the tin.  It was all about choosing great locations, using lighting creatively (a mix of natural light, video and constant light sources, off camera flash and location lighting) and posing your subject.

Me, TWENTY photographers, an amazing team working with me – it was always going to be a blast!

We started off early doors prepping our model, the gorgeous Sarah, for the day ahead.  We’d been bold.  We wanted to do three full changes on the day, including a bridal look and we knew we didn’t have much time to spare in between shooting.  But that’s where the awesome team comes into play.  Paisley Gamble Hairdresser and Kerry Baker Make Up Artist alongside my gorgeous wife Emma (from LOVE Bridal Boutique!) ensured that Sarah looked amazing and was ready in an unbelievably short time!

Massive thanks have to go to Jenny from The Lowry for letting us use the interior of this amazing building, Howard Wing for working with the photographers on all things marketing and networking and generally how to be an amazing wedding supplier, to Joe & Karin from Pinchjo’s Tapas bar and restaurant in West Didsbury for hosting the ‘after party’ and to Andy Murphy DJ for spinning the tunes and ensuring that everyone suitable embarrassed themselves singing karaoke ;)

So to start off, some instagram ‘behind the scenes’ photos courtesy of Howard, Kerry and Emma…

Getting things started – this is what I shot on the day…

Some of the attending photographers have been kind enough to share some of their images from the day – I LOVE seeing how differently everyone has framed images, processed them and really put their own stamp on them :)

CHLOE MURRAY

HAYLEY BAXTER

KATE SCOTT

NEIL PARRY

AMANDA BALMAIN

DANIEL BARNBY

GEMMA MCAULEY

And then it was party time….it started off relatively sensibly as overall, this was part of the workshop to encourage a little bit of ‘networking’ – amongst the attending photographers and all the involved suppliers as well as some of my other wedding supplier friends I’d invited to join us for the evening – it was great to see Sian from Didsbury Flower Lounge, Tom from Silk Wedding Films, Helen and Pete from We Are Life, Ben and Kate from Thyme Out Deli and Catering and Helen from Macleod Bradley :)

But then the rounds of jagermeister started and it all got a bit nuts…!!!

…and got ridiculous quite quickly…!!!

Finally, a huge thank you to Jo Eardley for assisting on the day and shooting the party images for us – great work Jo!  :)

Keep your eye on my Facebook page for more Workshops, Masterclasses and Training experiences (not all finish with a party I’m afraid!)

- NEW DATES WILL BE RELEASED VERY SOON…!!!

Shrigley Hall Wedding Photographs – Jacklyn & Stephen

Weddings | 21.02.2014

Words can’t actually describe how much fun this wedding was – Jack & Stephen like to party.  So do their friends and family.  Hard.  As a complete bonus I was also working with some of my favourite people in the wedding industry, Silk Wedding Films, Howard Wing, Precious Things and Flossy & Leigh.  It doesn’t get much better!  I laughed from minute one of the day and didn’t stop until I was halfway home that night – a truly brilliant wedding.

Jack & Stephen – thank you so much for having me along to take your Shrigley Hall Wedding Photographs.  I had an awesome time with you guys :)

Styal Lodge Wedding Photographs – Abi and Tom

Weddings | 20.01.2014

This was an ace wedding from start to finish.  Styal Lodge Wedding Photographs are always special.  It’s amazing how sometimes even from week to week it can look so different depending on the weather, what’s sprung up in the garden, whether people are having their drinks reception inside the amazing wooden lodge or basking on the terrace – it’s just such a stunning venue.  I was also excited to be working with my great friend and recently crowned “Best Wedding Entertainer in the UK” in The Wedding Industry Awards, Howard Wing.  I was also working with another great friend and also award winning – Andy Murphy, “Best Wedding DJ in the North West” in the same awards!

What a party!

Here’s the story of Abi & Tom’s amazing day…

Congratulations again Abi & Tom!!!

2012 – A year in wedding photographs!

Personal | 02.01.2013

For the past couple of years I’ve done a round up of my favourite photographs from the previous 12 months, from weddings, pre-wedding shoots, other wedding related styled shoots and personal stuff.

I seem to have shot more than ever this year and with so many amazing things happening this year (Opening Love Bridal Boutique with Emma, winning North West Wedding Photographer of the year in The Wedding Industry Awards, working closer than ever with some of the UK’s top venues and wedding suppliers) I’ve decided to dedicate this blog purely to weddings. I didn’t want to water down the amazing wedding experiences I’ve had this year and so I’ll be adding 2 or 3 more ‘A year in…’ blog posts over the coming weeks…so watch this space…!!!

So, I’m sticking rigidly to the formula I’ve always used for these ‘Best of’ blog posts – only ONE image from each wedding I’ve shot in 2012 is allowed.

Which is hard.

Really hard.

I’m lucky enough to work consistently with brides and grooms who are 100% excited about their day. Not just about the photography, but about their venue, their entertainment, their videographer, their ceremony, their florist.

Which makes my life really easy.

I don’t have to convince people that certain things are a good idea – they’ve got their own ideas that they involve me in and we work on ideas and are creative together.

This is an awesome way of working :) And this means that I shoot A LOT of images at every single wedding that I absolutely love. And to cut them down to my very favourite, single image from each wedding is something that breaks my heart! But I do it because it’s fun too!

Some of the choices are really hard but I make these decisions with my head AND my heart.

What I love about them from a technical point of view in some cases, but more often than not, what I love about the moment, the look, the tears, the laughter, the feel of the photograph.

And there they are below.

Some of them were easy, some of them were really hard, for very many different reasons.

Some of them don’t feature the groom, some of them don’t feature the bride – some of them feature neither! (And they’re the REALLY difficult ones to actually finally make a decision on – but it’s just because something grabbed me that represents the overall day)

So one image, from every wedding this year, with a single line to describe why I love that image (and they’re in no particular order!)

Enjoy :)

The Wedding Industry Awards – Best North West Photographer is…

Personal | 19.12.2012

…Jonny Draper Photography!!!  How awesome is that?!?!

A massive thank you to all my amazing brides and grooms who voted for me to be shortlisted initially and a huge thank you to the judges at The Wedding Industry Awards for recognising what I do :)

It is a huge honour to have won – I was standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the best wedding photographers not only in the North West, but in my opinion, the UK, and to be judged as being the best is something that I can’t quite get my head around…

This blog post contains a single image from each wedding that I shot within the voting period (which was REALLY hard to choose!) as an extra thank you to my amazing brides and grooms for trusting me, for pushing me to raise the bar at every wedding, for not thinking I’m a little bit mental with some of the suggestions I sometimes make and for voting for me in these awards.  Thank you so much to each and every one of you :)

These images are in no particular order – I love them all equally :)

2011 – A year in photographs…

Family | 05.01.2012

Here it is! My TOP60 of 2011! (I tried to make it TOP40 but I just couldn’t cut it down any further!) Another amazing year at Jonny Draper Photography filled with awesome experience after awesome experience. Another year of meeting some of the loveliest people you could ever possibly wish to meet and another year of working at some of the best venues and with some of the best suppliers in the wedding industry. To all of my brides and grooms and to all of my wonderful wedding friends – thank you for making 2011 an absolute joy. I’m looking forward to more of the same this year!

So without further ado, my favourite images in no particular order. As with my 2010 review, I set myself a couple of simple rules so as to (hopefully!) not bore you to tears reading this blog post and instead let you just look at and enjoy the images. The rules were: Only 60 images (I worked out that I shot over 100,000 images last year so it’s been a bit of a task to cut them down again!) and only a simple line about each one. Here we go…!!!

The gorgeous Poppy at Styal Lodge modelling for our ‘Future of Vintage’ shoot as featured on English Wedding (you can see the whole shoot HERE)  We could have been in Ibiza the weather was that good!  One of my iconic images of 2011 – so much so that it is about to be hung on our lounge wall!

001_styal_futurevintage_lores_133

Katie & Colin’s Grange over Sands wedding – I love a happy and full dance floor!

Bev & Phil’s wedding at The Ashes in Staffordshire.  Taking a few minutes out at their stunning venue…

003_bev_phil_wedding_sneakblog_034

I’ve heard rumours about photographers not allowing guests to take pictures at weddings they shoot – obviously I don’t roll like that, but even if I did, I’d have struggled to stop Lisa & Eric’s guests at Thornton Manor!!!

004_lisa_eric_wedding_sneakblog_003

Kelly & Mike’s Inn at Whitewell wedding – stunning.  That’s it.

005kelly_mike_wedding_sneakblog_012

Alexis & Adam’s wedding at Mitton Hall.  Wowsers.  What a gorgeous evening for the the most gorgeous couple.  Ali & Adam REALLY loved everything about their wedding and the photography and were so keen to use their amazing venue to it’s full potential.  As with all the images in this post, I could have used hundreds of images from their wedding, so it was tough cutting it to this one.  But I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a worthy entry!

006_alexis_adam_wedding_sneakblog_029

Another Mitton Hall wedding, this time Jenna & Chris’s big day (that’s not Chris on the left by the way!) – I just loved Jenna & her bridesmaid’s matching Vivienne Westwood shoes!

Jess and Terry’s Burnley Wedding – Sneak Peek!

Weddings | 24.08.2011

This wedding was so much fun! And was soooooo emotional! In fact, it had every single positive emotion you can think of attached to it – it was ace!

Jess & Terry were married at The Oaks Hotel in Burnley and I was lucky enough to work with two of my favourite wedding people (one of who I’m married to…but I’m not saying which one!) Howard Wing, entertainer extraordinaire and Emma Draper Make-Up Artist (TOP make-up artist!)

I arrived as bridal preparations were fully underway…
